The Japan Railway will start non-smoking on
all platforms fully.
There will be no more smoking area, they announced.
I personally do not smoke and do not like
the smell of cigarettes; however, I feel sorry
for smokers being taken away their breathing
space.
I know the fact that smoking have innumerable
harmful effects without doing any good at
all and also second hand smoke is a big issue.

Do you lock the doors and/or windows in your
house?
Does my question sound strange to you?
When it comes to
security, we would just prop a pole diagonally,
especially at the countryside.
However, good old days were gone and today
is the days of self-protection.
This year's harvest
was poor in Japan because of cool summer
& comparative lack of sunlight. A lot
of thefts of farm produce including rice,
vegetables, and fruits were reported by
farmers.
Since freshly harvested rice fetched a premium,
farmers believed that it became an attractive
target for thieves according to the Japan
times, Sep. 26
issue.
Don't leave home without locking up securely.
My house was broken
into twice before.
Better safe than sorry.

Two large earthquakes occured the northern
island of Hokkaido early this morning. The
first one broke out at 4:50am and the second
jolt happened at 6:07am.
Tsunami also happened along with the quake.
If you are from the country where there are
no quakes, you must have been very surprised
and scared.
Keep closely watch on quakes and tsunamis
information, especially those who live along
the coast.

Tomorrow is a national holiday, called "Syuubun
no hi" which means the day of Autumn
Equinox.
It is also called "o-higan", a Buddhist
memorial service.
People usually visit family graves to comfort
the ancestors' spirits.
We usually bring flowers, some sweets and
incense to graves.
Nowadays, playfoods are used instead of real
sweets to avoid being eaten by stray dogs
or cats.
What we usually do at graves is to wash graves,
offer water or Sake sometimes for ancestors
to drink, put flowers, and burn incense.
Then join one's hands in prayer in front of
a grave.
Also, temples will
conduct special services to show our appreciation
to the Buddha and to our ancestors tomorrow.

On August 15 every year of Lunar calendar
when the moon is supposed to be full, we have
a custom to enjoy the moon called, "Cyu
syu no meigetsu (the harvest moon)".
We arrange the Japanese pampas grass in a
vase and dumpling cakes in a shape of pyramid
for celebrating this year's harvest.
Watching the moon, we eat the dumpling cakes.
This year we could
enjoy the Mars as well as the Moon, couldn't
we?

One of our retail shops, Le-Noble Nagaoka
is usually closed on Wednesdays, but up to
September 15, we open everyday.
Yesterday I looked after the shop alone during
lunch time.
Le-Noble Nagaoka is located on the suburban
district, and it has a large parking space.
In store, there are a lot of our selection
of European brand tableware, cutlery, accessory,
and a lot more.
So, you can take time and do your shopping
as much as you like.
We will be listing store location shortly
on our English site.

On the last issue, I introduced our retail
stores besides the on-line store.
This time I would like to introduce our head
office building.
Our head office is 3-story building.
On the first floor, there are storage and
a pilot shop, Le-noble Nagaoka store. 12 staff
including part time workers are usually working
at the storage, and 2 members are selling
our selection at Le-noble Nagaoka.
The second floor
is the place to inspect, wrap, and package
products for on-line store.
We usually have 9 part-time jobbers working
on this floor.
Finally, on the third
floor there are 5 sections, which are accounting,
web design, on-line store, trading, and
sales teams. There are about 27 staff in
total working on this floor.
I, a writer of this
journal, belong to the trading team.
And the designer of this English site belongs
,of course, to the web design team.
Every day, members
of each section try to do our best for customer's
satisfaction.

Fuji-yama, Geisha, and Samurai used to be
the first image of Japan, in former days.
But, nowadays the image has been changing.
Japanese animation becomes well known these
days such as Pikacyu, Doraemon, and Spirited
away (Sen to chihiro no kamikakushi) which
received an Academy Award as best animated
film.
Foreign press sometimes described Japanese
adults as immatuared because of our fondness
for cartoons.
There are a lot of Japanese cartoons translated
into foreign languages now, so try to find
the one in your language and have fun.
According to one of our staff who likes cartoons
very much, "Crayon Shinchan" and
"One Piece" are also in fashion
now.

It has passed three months since we opened
this English site.
We started it with the aim for English speaking
customers staying in Japan to enjoy our site
