When I am asked what my hobby is, I usually answer it, saying, "Watching movies".
But I realized that I rarely went to the theatre to watch movies. Partly because, the price is expensive; ¥1,800/adult, and partly because there were not much movies worth for watching at the theatre for me comparing to watching DVDs at home.
Now, the movie which makes me excited and want to go to the theatre to watch has come.
It is called, "MACH" and a Thai action film of Muay Thai.
While CG on the movie is rapidly developing, the film "MACH" does not use any of it, and also wire and stuntman.

Sounds excited, doesn't it?

How do you survive these hot and humid days?
In Tokyo, the lowest temperature of today did not go under 30 ℃. Unbelievable!!
I recently read the book about self-help book when uneasy to sleep. There was an interesting story about a dream.
I would like to share it with you here.
It was a story of Mr. Walt Disney's dream.
When Disney world in Florida was opened, Walt Disney had already been deceased.
A interviewer made a interview to his brother instead, saying,"That's unfortunate of Walt Disney being not able to see the Disney world".
His brother answered, "He was the first man who saw the Disney World(in his dream), so we can see it now".
I am very impressed by the comment his brother made.

As you might already know, in the dictionary of USA, it says that a dream is the thing come true. On the other hand, in Japanese dictionary, a dream is the thing not come true, it explains.
Let's have a big dream!!

Here in Kyoto, Gion Festival has started since July 1, and it will continue untill the end of July.
Today is, what we call, "Yoiyama" or the eve of Yamabooko procession (parade of decorated floats).
The Shijo street, a main street of Kyoto, becomes pedestrian precinct for 3 days from July 14, 2004.
On July 17, 32 gorgeously decorated floats are paraded through the streets of Kyoto.

There are a lot of street stands every corner of main avenue, and a lot of people wearing Yukata, which makes the Festival more traditional atmosphere.

Yesterday, there was a the House of Councilors election.
DPJ increased their seats contrary to LDP, which lost some seats and could not reach their goal of 51 seats.

This time, the main concerns of people are the issues of annual pension, of SDF's participating coalition forces, of North Korea, and economy.

Those who concerned pension most likely cast a vote for DPJ, and those who concerned economy most for LDP, they say.

In Kansai area, the voter turnout is under 50%.
Young people seems not to have much interest for voting.

I, of course, went for voting Sunday.
Except when I was in the U.S., I have cast a vote every time since I granted the franchise.

Yesterday, the world first blue flower was introduced in public, which was breeded by Suntory Ltd.
Blue flower was scientists' long-time dream but nobody had done it before.
The flower language is "impossible".

Have you heard of "Feng Shui", a Chinese Fortune Telling, before?
It is very popular in Japan now.
It tells which direction is good or bad in your house, and what should have done with the direction in order to have good luck.

On June 20, 2004, Takekiri-e-shiki (Bamboo-cutting ritual)will be held in Kumadera Temple.
In this ritual, the Kurama priests cut off joint by joint of green bamboo which represents huge serpents, with sharp blades.
It indicates the coming year's harvest & good omen.

This is the event after a historical fact that priests fight off a huge serpent by chanting a mantra during their training.

Today, we found a brace of ducks walking around the creek in the garden, eating something together.
After a while, they found the comfortable place in the shadow of a tree, and had a rest together.

In Kyoto tourists often use taxis as convenient transportation.

Nowadays, a taxi company is spotlighted because of his new approach.
Their taxis have the company logo, three-leaf clover, on the sides of most taxis.
What I say "most" here is because 3 cars out of 2000 in the company, have a different logo on their sides.
It is the four-leaf clover which is univaersally believed for a symbol of good luck from the earliest times.
As you know, actual four-leaf clovers are very rare and difficult to find and in like wise, to find these taxis is "Once in a blue moon".
It is said when people ride the four-leaf taxi, they will become happy.

However, you can not reserve these taxis and find them at taxi stops, either.

Since last February, we have advertised Le-noble Shijo shop and some selected products from Le-noble mail order department on a radio.

It is on the air for 10 minitues every Friday from 6:15pm to 6:25pm at KBS-KYOTO radio station.

Last Friday, I was on the radio and introduced Baccarat crystal.

It was my first experience to talk on a radio, so I was a bit nervous at first.
In addition it was a live program.
I felt my heart beat rapidly.
Fortunately, it ended without any trouble.

Last couple of days, it has been nice and warm weather here in Kyoto.
Cherry buds are put out every single of branch.
I can not wait for cherry-blossom time.
In the season a lot of people go for a cherry-viewing party, and spread a mat under a tree, where they enjoy drinks and foods.
Also some people sing and dance together, sometimes.

Sounds interesting, doesn't it?

In kyoto, cherry blossoms in Maruyama park is very famous because one of the trees is old enough to stand without splints but it still has beautiful blossoms.
The view is amazing.

You can enjoy cherry blossoms both daytime and night time because at famous sightseeing spots, they are usually illuminated.

Last Saturday, I went to a famous cafe called London Tea Room after a long interval.
They do not serve any coffee but English tea.
It was about 10 years ago when I went there for the first time.
I remember that I was impressed very much of the taste and the atomosphere.
These days a lot of tea shops or cafes where we can drink genuine tea or coffee, are increasing all over.
So my first impression toward London Tea Room never awaked.....
However, there was a thing I still liked, which was that they serve some tea with brand cups such as Minton, Royal Crown Derby and so on.

It is very competitive world, so they need to differentiate, don't they?

Our designer, Mr. M, had suffered a traffic accident last Monday.
We were very worried about him, because he did not come to the office for two days.
Today, he came to work with his 100-watt smile.

Yesterday, I went to Matsuo with my friend where there are some famous shrines and temples.
Then we found a cafe, called "Blue Onion".
They serve coffee or tea with Brand's Cup & Saucer.
There are Herend, Meissen, Richard Ginori, and lots more.
Here are cups we had. Both of them are Herend.

A documentary program was on air last night. It was about some Japanese women's quitting their stable jobs and going abroad for studying their dream occupations.
The reason they want to study abroad is to find their identification mostly.
There were no concrete aims for them, according to the T.V. program.
The average date of staying is from 3 months to 1 year.
Relatively short, I thought.
Hopefully they could find what they want to do for their lifetime work and what they are.

The anchorperson concluded the program as saying that it would be very special experience for them in anyway.

This year's coming-of-age ceremony was held on January 12.
People who reach the age of 20 in Japan are celebrated at the ceremony.
There will be more thing to be able to do after come-of-age.
For example; given the right to vote, to drink alcohol, to smoke cigarrette and so on.

These days, it is said that the manner of people at the ceremony is getting worse because of lack of morality according to the media.
In the worst case, it had been involved in a police matter before.

Today is the first day of working at Le-Noble head office.
How was your winter holidays?
Did you go to New Year's countdown party?
In Japan, we usually spend time with family eating "Osechi", or Japanese traditional New Year dishes.
"Osechi" foods are ordinally prepared in square boxes of japan ware. A variety of food is in it and each has a special meaning as New Year's dishes.
For example:
"Kuromame", or Black Beans - wishing for our perfect state of health
"Kazunoko", or herring egg - wishing for the flourish of offsprings
"Gomame" - or small dried sardine - wishing for ample harvest
"Konbu", or seaweed - wishing for a lot of happiness
"Kurikinton", or sweet chestnut - for wealth
"Datemaki", or a fish omelet rolled up and cut into thick slices

and lots more.....
Recently, more and more people buy "Osechi" dishes at a department store rather than cooking by oneself.

As I told you, yesterday was our year end party.
Everyone had a good time with delicious food and drink showing appreciation each other of his or her effort.

In Japan, we usually talk to elders and betters with honorific language, however, in this type of party, we can freely mix regardless of rank or seniority. It is called "Bureikou".
My seat was just in front of section chiefs of accounting and sales section, fortunately ? or Un..
Anyway, Because it was "Bureikou" and I had some glasses of alcohole, I started takeoff of a section chief to his face, which I shouldn't have.....

My mimic of staff members escalated and finally I made a takeoff of our CEO. Sorry....
All of my imitation was not so good, but it became a good entertainment with the power of drink.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, I would like to apologize to them for my bad imitation.

Tomorrow, we will have a year-end cleanup.

Hopefully, I could write a journal tomorrow for the last one of 2003.

The restaurant has an accomodation facility in it.

♪♪I〜'm dreaming of a White Christmas 〜♪♪
Unfortunatelly, at this year's Christmas it is not snowing in Kyoto.
However, we had snow fall last week and it piled up on the roof of Kinkakuji (Golden Pavillion - a famous temple in northern Kyoto city).
It was so gorgeous and you got to see it.

By the way, regarding the yesterday's news, a man who made big profits from stock markets tossed at least 1 million yen from the observatory of TV tower in Nagoya. The police gave him a strict reprimand and it was treated a troublesome event. However, it reminded me a scene from a movie.

In my childhood, I often watched the movie called "Christmas Carol". Yesterday's news reminded me the last scene of the movie. On the Christmas morning, Scrooge was glad that he was alive and became a good man opening a window and saying, "Merry Christmas!!" to everybody.
I remember when I first watched it, I was scared of three gohsts appearing on the movie. - Christmas past, Christmas present, and Christmas future.
But there were a lot of things to learn from it and it is still my favorite.

We were having a guest from Italy since last Tuesday.
We have contributed a good relationship with them for a long time since his father's days.
This time, he came to do business with both of our Kyoto and Osaka trading sections.
I, a writer of this journal, belong to the trading section in Kyoto, but unfortunatelly I couldn't attend to the business meeting with him in the daytime.
However, my prayer was answered and I could join the dinner meeting.
I might belong to a "Entertaining section" (which does not exit in our company so far). HA HA HA.
Mr. L and Three of us enjoyed 'Tempura' dinner with exchanging both important and not so important information.
In terms of not-so important information, we introduced buzzwords of this year in Japan to him such as "Gets" used often by a comedian called Dandy Sakano, and "he he he..." by a Japanese T.V. program titled 'Fountain of Trevia'.
Since he told us that he would visit Akihabara after leaving Kyoto, we also introduced the word "Otaku", which means mania, especially for animation, and comics.
We hope he could use the above words to his Japanese freinds for fun, and we are sure he will be more popular by using them. However, if they were used at inappropriate occasion........, scary to imagine.(Just kidding, though)
Of course, he knows the right occasion.
The above was the story of Tuesday night.
Then on Wednesday, There had a long business meeting with him in the afternoon, (to which I didn't attend) however, I who belong to "Entertaining section" joined the Wednesday dinner meeting, Of course.
The dinner was Chinese and we enjoyed the conversation and dinner very much.
